Yahoo news reports that Netflix has been dropping popular selections of movies and TV shows, and will likely continue this trend, due to increasing costs of licensing rights and availability of movies online and on cable networks.
It was just a few years ago that Netflix drove Blockbuster into the ground, and then some, when people decided a continuous rental service was cooler than renting on demand in a physical shop. But with smartphones virtually everywhere, and mobile internet devices not far behind, is it time for Netflix to crumble under the weight of fast, online streaming programs? Only time will tell.
It’s also pretty ironic how the copyright hysteria we’ve undergone in the last 6 years protects entertainment, while at the same time limiting the availability of it.
